More showings are scheduled. Early buyer interest disappointingly died because of the poor condition of the apartment building next door. In order to mitigate buyers’ fears that this building will remain in poor condition, the developer/architect has been preparing plans for the owner, a local community development corporation.
Fingers crossed that this weekend’s up-coming tours go well and an owner for the house is found.
We remember when Plattform @ 930 Mellon was just a little old crowdfunding project. Now, the eco-friendly Pittsburgh home – which raised $82,000 from the crowd on Small Change – is all built up and ready for owners.
The home went on the market last week and is the belle of the neighborhood.
With siding installed and the front porch built, the housing is taking shape and fits in nicely with it’s neighbors down the street.
Despite numerous weather setbacks in 2018, the garage is now complete, the roof and back deck are framed, and the foundations and utilities are in. Water and sewer have been connected with no drama or additional expense. Up next: siding is being installed at the beginning of February.
Late September 2018
The house has been constructed in just a day.
The modules were lifted into place and joined, the roof buttoned, the plumbing on site finished, the utilities hooked up and the areas around the house backfilled. Oh, and the garage was excavated too. It’s real!
Early September 2018
The factory-built foundation for 930 Mellon Street is finally in place.
With the help of a successful crowdfunding raise on Small Change, Plattform at 930 Mellon will be the first of three houses to be built on three vacant lot in Pittsburgh’s Highland Park neighborhood.. Designed to Passivhaus standards by Laura Nettleton of Thoughtful Balance, the modular house will be prefabricated and 85% complete before ever reaching the site.
Now that the precast foundation is in place, the boxes (which have already been shipped) will be craned into place on September 19th, as long as the weather holds.
