In the summer of 2017, the Office of Jonathan Tate (OJT) listed their Starter Home Two project in New Orleans on Small Change. They successfully crowdfunded their goal of $95,000, providing the equity they needed to develop the latest two homes in OJT’s “Starter Home” plan.
The plan provides an adaptable design framework to difficult-to-develop, irregularly shaped vacant lots throughout the city. The end result is an affordable housing type that brings to market needed housing in New Orleans and activates previously vacant lots.
Now, real progress is being made. One of the houses is almost finished and OJT is on track to complete both by this spring. The mechanical, electrical and plumbing subs are on site and all the windows and doors are installed. The arches are nearly complete and there’s a front door!
