Small Change recently helped fund a Passive House at 930 Mellon Street, in Pittsburgh’s Highland Park. “Plattofrm” as it’s called, is planned to be the first of set of three houses built to strict green standards by Eco-Craft Homes, local modular home builders. Eco-Craft’s advanced prefabricated construction allows them to build virtually any home in as little as 90 days. Up to 85% complete before ever reaching the home site, they are then transported, assembled, and finished on location.
Designer Laura Nettleton has toured (and documented) the Eco-Craft factory three times during the first 30 days of construction. “I can recognize the design realized as I walk through the boxes and it feels like a miraculous rate of speed at which these were completed. I am really happy with the quality and the craftsmanship and the final outcome.”
Now that the precast foundation is in place, the boxes (which have already been shipped) will be craned into place on September 19th, as long as the weather holds.
