It’s been a whirlwind couple of weeks. Chicago, San Francisco, home to Pittsburgh, back to Chicago, home to Pittsburgh again. Now, Los Angeles.
I’m here for Greenbuild, the world’s largest clearinghouse for green building practices. I’m presenting on a panel that’s focusing not so much on sustainable materials as it is on sustainable solutions. My fellow panelists and I will be talking about ways to build up networks and resources to then rebuild communities.
My experience has taught me that it takes more than good design to accomplish this. Finance dictates form and function all too often. And the lack of access to finance dictates whether your neighborhood project will come to life.
That’s changing. Real estate crowdfunding is creating new avenues for people to invest direct in projects they want to see happen. Scaling up the network and resources to build community is getting easier. Small Change is out there doing it – our second raise, fully funded, closed this week. I can’t wait to tell the crowd.
