Below are some images from the PlaceLab salon in Chicago I attended the week before last. Our group explored the concept of “Engaged Participation,” focusing on how community input cannot be divorced from the goals of ethical redevelopment. I kept thinking about how Small Change’s crowdfunding model is not only able to bring community voices into the development process, but will also allow everyday individuals to participate in and benefit from the growth of neighborhood projects.
I’ll be back in Chicago many times over the course of PlaceLab’s year-long “Nine Principles of Ethical Redevelopment” salon series, and I’m looking forward to carrying on the conversations started.
